The USPS is an essential service that provides necessary government communications, like vote-by-mail ballots and Census forms.
But the Trump Administration has repeatedly worked to undermine the credibility of the USPS -- threatening to veto its emergency funding during a pandemic, removing operations equipment to slow mail delivery, and attempting to block mail-in voting altogether.
The United States Postal Service is a critical service for thousands of communities across America -- helping ensure that seniors receive their prescriptions, allowing small businesses to thrive with fair shipping costs, and employing more than 800,000 essential workers.
But once it became clear that states would implement mail-in voting to keep people safe from large crowds during a pandemic, Trump began his attempts to defund the Postal Service:
Trump claimed that mail-in voting would lead to fraud -- despite election experts stating that it’s secure -- and threatened to veto any funding for the Postal Service to erode the effectiveness of vote-by-mail.
In Nevada, his efforts were even more blatant:
Trump sued the state and insisted that Governor Sisolak was attempting to steal the election by passing a law to allow mail-in voting during a pandemic. It’s absurd.
Steve is standing up to Trump’s attacks on a national stage, but he needs your help to keep our fight going strong.
