Four years ago, Senate Republicans refused to vote on Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court in February of an election year. Back then, Mitch McConnell said, “The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”

Now, with only 44 days until the election and Trump down in the polls, McConnell is determined to push through a far-right justice and strengthen conservatives’ hold on the Supreme Court.

The hypocrisy is incredible, even for him.

Make no mistake: If Trump and McConnell get their way, this will be the end of Roe v. Wade. They will attack healthcare, environmental regulations, voting rights, protections for LGBTQ+ and undocumented folks, and more. This decision will impact our nation for generations.

This is a fight we can’t afford to lose. For the sake of our democracy, and in honor of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, we have to hold off on confirming a nominee until the American people have made their choice.
