John,

On Friday, we lost an American icon.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a prodigious public interest law litigator, and though small in stature, she stood taller than a giant in her role as a Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. She was a champion for the rights of women, and a stalwart defender for all treated unequally under the law. Justice Ginsburg stood tall for equal justice and opportunity for all. She was someone who I greatly admired and respected, and her example makes me proud to be a member of the profession that she exemplified the highest ideals of.

Each and every day, she reminded us of our own ability to be good and do good. No matter how long the odds, or how lonely the dissent, she never faltered in blazing the trail for liberty. Our nation is significantly closer to our promise of “liberty and justice for all” because of her lifetime of work.

My thoughts are with her family and loved ones in this difficult time — and with all Americans who are heartbroken with the passing of this champion. We will honor her legacy by continuing the struggle for a more perfect union.

In solidarity,
Hank
