Hello,

This weekend, we lost an American icon. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a trailblazer who tirelessly worked to expand the rights of all Americans.

I wish we could pause and mourn and leave the debate regarding her eventual successor to another day. Her legacy has impacted and inspired an entire nation. But the truth is — Republicans have made it clear that we don't have that kind of time.

Already, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has already made it clear he is going to go back on his word, promising to ram through whatever right-wing judge Donald Trump nominates to the court.

Montanans begin voting in two weeks and, as McConnell and my Republican colleagues said just four years ago, the American people must have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice.

There isn’t a separate set of rules for Republicans and Democrats — we should follow the precedent McConnell set and fill this vacancy when the next President and Senate are sworn in, regardless of who wins.

That’s why I’m asking you to sign my urgent petition demanding Trump and McConnell not advance any Supreme Court nominee before the next President is inaugurated. This is important. [[link removed]]

A lot of my Republican colleagues have made their positions clear over the last few years: no confirmation vote right before an election.

Now, they are hearing from corporate donors telling them to go back on their word and ram through a Justice who will allow the sale of public lands, overturn Roe v. Wade, and set the country back generations.

We cannot let them.

Thank you,

Jon
