Friends,
Today we mourn the loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. For decades, she stood at the vanguard of the movement for Women’s rights, a champion, notorious for defying gendered expectations. She used the law to attack the pillars of misogyny, but her tenacity, persistence and imagination demonstrate that each of us have a role in the movement.
Ginsburg is an inspiration to all of us in the struggle to destroy root causes of oppression. She broke the molds for others even as she transcended them herself. The political gravity of this loss is immense and far reaching. We must prepare to enter the next few weeks as if our lives and the survival of our democracy count on it. Because they do.
But now is not the time for us to fall into despair. We must strengthen our resolve and fortify our commitment to justice. We must channel our collective power unapologetically for the change this moment demands. We must remain rooted in love and passion for democracy.
Today, though, it is also important that we give ourselves a moment to mourn and engage in some level of self care before the struggle ahead. Whatever your practice, be sure to pause and give yourself time to feel the loss of a great warrior in the fight for justice. Today, we hold remembrance in our hearts, and reflect on the ways RBG impacted us.
Tomorrow, we can pick up the torch and move forward. Together.
Pa’lante, in solidarity,
Dianne
