Hi team --

Meagan here from Indivisible. I wanted to give you an update on
developments happening around Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s
death and the impending fight around a Trump’s nominee to replace her a
mere 45 days before the election.

This is a hard one for all of us, and for me personally. My coworkers here
in D.C. will tell you that I keep a signed picture of Justice Ginsburg on
my desk. She was a brilliant lawyer who became a great Supreme Court
justice, and she was an inspiration for generations of lawyers and
non-lawyers alike.

As a progressive, and as a lawyer, who was deeply inspired by Justice
Ginsburg, it is physically painful for me to think about Donald Trump
choosing her replacement.

So we have to fight our buns off.

This is a winnable fight -- but we need to be loud. Yes, this will be an
uphill battle. So our immediate focus must be to peel off enough
Republicans who are willing to follow Mitch McConnell’s own rule from 2016
[ [link removed] ](see: this great video Pablo from our team made) that the Senate cannot
confirm a Supreme Court justice in an election year. But you’re not off
the hook if you have Democratic Senators: For Democrats, we want to shore
up their unified opposition to a nominee even before he/she is announced
by Trump (which we’re hearing could happen as early as Wednesday).

What does that mean for us? It means we need to drive thousands of calls
to all Senate offices over the next few days. You can find all our asks
[ [link removed] ]here and we’ll continue updating that page as things develop, but
here’s the details as of right now:

* [ [link removed] ]Here is our call page to be connected to your Senators. Or, if it’s
easier, you can instead call 1-701-484-0521 to hear a short script on
what to say and then be connected to your senator. Don’t forget to
call back again to be connected to your second Senator! Important
note: if we do our jobs right, Senators’ voicemail boxes may begin to
fill up. If that happens, set yourself a reminder to call first thing
Monday morning.

* If you’re on Twitter, take a moment to add to the public pressure
campaigns by using our [ [link removed] ]tweet your senators tool.

* Finally, [ [link removed] ]click here to email your Senators with the same message so
we can make sure they’re hearing it from every angle possible.

Those call asks are our number one priority, but there’s a lot more going
on. Here’s a few things we’re tracking:

* We’re co-hosting [ [link removed] ]a vigil tonight in DC that Leah will be speaking
at, and Indivisible groups are organizing their own vigils across the
country. We’re mapping those events on the map [ [link removed] ]right here. This map
is a work in progress, so you can also try searching your town’s name
plus “RBG vigil” on Facebook or Twitter.

* Our fight to take the Senate just got a whole lot more important (see:
[ [link removed] ]Payback Project). Indivisibles have been fighting to take back the
Senate via Payback Project for months, and that fight just took on a
whole new meaning with the fact that the next president and next
Senate could pick the next justice and determine the future of the
Supreme Court. It’s more important than ever to sign up to
[ [link removed] ]phonebank voters. You can also write letters -- we even have a huge
[ [link removed] ]letter-writing party with the cast of Hamilton on the books here
for tomorrow night that you can join!

* Finally, all of this new work costs money -- and we could spend a lot
more than anticipated over the next few weeks. [ [link removed] ]Rush an $18
donation to the Payback Project right now in honor of RBG. We have a
million-dollar-plus plan to take back the Senate, which is our BEST
shot at ensuring a liberal court, but it’s powered by small dollar
donations. Donate now to ensure we can fund it and all our work to
ensure a fairer, more equitable future RBG would be proud of.

We’re going to keep updating you as the weekend progresses. Thank you,
from the bottom of my heart, for everything you do.

In solidarity,
Meagan Hatcher-Mays
Director of Democracy Policy
Indivisible
