Friend,

Like so many of you, I'm utterly devastated by the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It's difficult to put into words how severe this loss feels.

For me -- and so many other women who have practiced law -- Justice Ginsburg was the ultimate "shero". Her words, actions, and decisions opened doors for countless Americans. Her legacy is one of justice, equality, and respect for the rule of law.

I truly wish that all of us mourning her death could do simply that: mourn. Yet in our moment of heartbreak, we must find the strength to immediately act to protect her legacy -- and our fundamental rights.

Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are already promising to swiftly confirm a new justice. Let me be very clear: a new right-wing justice means that healthcare, abortion rights, LGBTQ equality, workers' rights, and so much more could be set back for decades.

In a year that has already tested us beyond anything we could have imagined, I know that it feels daunting to have this fight. But it's happening -- and I will be alongside you for all of it.

We must spend the next days and weeks making it absolutely clear: if Republicans try to push through a Supreme Court nominee right before an election (in which early voting has already begun) -- or do so in lame-duck session even if they lose the election -- there will be heavy political consequences at the ballot box.

We must mobilize like never before, at all levels. We will boost candidates up and down the ballot. We will march. We will shout. We will vote.

In our grief, in our fear, in our recognition that our democracy is hanging by a thread -- we find the purpose to act with moral strength. And in our moments of doubt or weariness, we never forget that Ruth Bader Ginsberg would want us to keep fighting.

May her memory be a blessing and inspire us in the days ahead.

-Jennifer
