John, we cannot let Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump steal a seat on the Supreme Court for the NRA.

It has been less than a day since the country lost Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a true champion of justice and equality, and Mitch McConnell is already trying to steal her seat on the Supreme Court of the United States.

McConnell is working off of Donald Trump’s short list for SCOTUS nominees, which includes the NRA’s go-to-lawyer. If any of these picks are appointed, then every gun safety law in America will be under threat of being rolled back. We are already at risk after the NRA spent over a million dollars to get gun rights extremist Brett Kavanaugh a seat on the Supreme Court just two years ago.

The next 45 days have never been more important, John. Voters have already started heading to the polls, and we urgently need to hear from 56 more gun safety activists like you in your area. We can’t keep this poll open past 11:59 p.m., so please, tell us immediately:

Should Mitch McConnell Select Ruth Bader Ginsberg's Replacement?

11:59 p.m. deadline

While we should celebrate Justice Ginsburg's life as a trailblazer and brilliant jurist, her loss is overshadowed by the reality that her seat — and the fate of sensible gun laws in America — are at threat. We must honor her by remaining committed to the values and ideals that she cherished. With you by our side, we know we can fight for a safer and more democratic America.

Thank you for taking action with us. May Justice Ginsburg's memory be a revolution, and may she rest in power.

ICYMI: We Launched Our New End Family Fire Campaign on Preventing Gun Suicide

September is Suicide Prevention Month. To end gun violence, we must address gun suicide, which accounts for 61% of all gun deaths in America. Most suicide attempts are undertaken impulsively during moments of crisis. But when someone attempts suicide with a gun, they rarely get a second chance to live a full life.

That’s why our End Family Fire program launched a powerful multimedia campaign on safe gun storage as a means to prevent gun suicide. We know that by storing all guns in our homes securely, we can help ensure a temporary crisis doesn’t turn into a permanent tragedy and give our loved ones a second chance at life.

Did you miss our official launch? Watch our new video, "No Extra Life."

Trigger Warning: The video is very powerful and can be hard to watch, as it portrays a life-or-death scenario that too many Americans have faced.

Only until all Americans understand the importance of safe gun storage as a means to prevent suicide will we truly End Family Fire. Visit End Family Fire to learn more tips for how you can protect your loved ones and practice safe firearm storage.

You're Invited — “Leading the Movement to Prevent Gun Violence: Hosted by Brady California”

Opening remarks by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

California has the strongest gun laws in the nation, and they are making a difference. From 1993 to 2018, California’s firearm mortality rate declined by 57 percent — almost four times the decrease in the rest of the nation. Part of this success can be attributed to Brady California leaders, who have helped pass more than 80 gun safety laws in the last 15 years alone.

Want to hear from national experts and grassroots leaders who've made California the national model for gun reform? Featuring remarks by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, our virtual conference will provide you with concrete ways to create lasting social and policy change in your community. Select a session to join starting on Monday, September 21 — Friday, September 25!

Preventing Police Violence
Brady's Approach to Comprehensive Police Reform

George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Ahmaud Arbery. Recent senseless murders of unarmed Black Americans have mobilized millions of Americans to address the nexus of police reform and racial justice. Brady joins the calls for systemic change and racial justice because police violence is gun violence. Our new resource details our evidence-based approach to comprehensive police reform, including our recommended policy solutions.

Register for Our Virtual Panel: "Addressing Youth Suicide in America"

In the U.S., suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people ages 15-19. We don't talk enough about youth suicide, and, when we do, we often don't acknowledge the intersectional identities that uniquely affect Black, LGBTQ, and indigenous youth.

Moderated by Brady President Kris Brown, we're convening experts from communities impacted by youth suicide, including representatives from Team ENOUGH, The Trevor Project, The TRIGGER Project, The American Association of Suicidology, and the United Indian Health Services.

Our new End Family Fire campaign on preventing gun suicide includes powerful firsthand stories from people who have lost loved ones to suicide. By highlighting such stories, we hope to encourage all families to safely secure their firearms as a means to prevent suicide.

We are thankful to these brave survivors and advocates, like Brady Pennsylvania Chapter member Denise Marks, Team ENOUGH Executive Council member Adam Friedman, and Sarah Brady Fellow Dr. Kyleanne Hunter for sharing their personal experiences with suicide to prevent tragedies in the future. It is through personal connections like these that we will truly End Family Fire. Listen to their stories and more now.

“Suicide by gun comprises the largest portion of gun deaths in America: over 23,000 Americans died by firearm suicide last year,” said Brady President Kris Brown. “To address gun violence necessitates addressing suicide by gun. By raising awareness of the risks posed by guns in the home and how gun owners can mitigate that risk by safely securing their firearms—which means locking their guns, unloaded, with ammunition stored separately—we can save lives.”
