BREAKING: NRA donates $200,000 to Va. House Republican leader
-- The Richmond Times-Dispatch, September 4, 2019
Friend,
When the Virginia House of Delegates adjourned the special session to address gun violence -- after the Virginia Beach shooting -- without a single vote or word of debate, we were disappointed beyond words. Virginians all across our state were counting on them to finally take real steps toward gun safety, and they let us down.
Now, we know why: Because the NRA donated $200,000 to Virginia House Republican leadership to buy them off.
It’s never been more clear that the Virginia GOP cares more about the NRA than the safety and well-being of everyday Virginians. We need leadership that is accountable to the people, not special interests -- chip in $5 to Team Stoney right now to help us continue being leaders in gun violence prevention.
It’s absolutely disgusting to see how blatantly the NRA controls Virginia Republicans -- but unfortunately, not surprising. They’ve demonstrated where their true loyalties lie through their lack of action and lack of willingness to find any proactive, bipartisan solutions.
When Mayor Stoney and the Richmond City Council took steps to ban guns in city-owned buildings, they set a clear example of how to show bravery and leadership in addressing the epidemic of gun violence. But the Virginia House of Delegates has refused to follow in their footsteps, and now we know why.
The Virginia House Republicans may be beholden to the NRA, but Mayor Stoney is only beholden to the residents of Richmond. Chip in $5 or more to Team Stoney today.
Thanks,
Team Stoney
