John --
I am sure by now you have heard the tragic news about the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. In the words of our President & CEO, María Teresa Kumar, “Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg’s passing means so much to so many Americans who live and love freer because of her. She was a champion for women, love equity, health access, and race equity -- we mourn her today. Tomorrow, we continue to fulfill her more just vision for our nation.”
Justice Ginsburg was a hero to millions, whose passion for equity and justice led the nation in a progressive direction. Just days before her death, she told her granddaughter, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.” And not even an hour into her passing, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released a statement saying “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”
We cannot let this happen. Without Justice Ginsburg, our future is on the line: healthcare, reproductive rights, voting rights, protections against discrimination, criminal justice reform, and this is just to name a few. Every major issue we care about is in danger.
Please contact your senators and urge them to delay the vote for a new Supreme Court Justice until after the election. [[link removed]]
