Team,
Did you see Rusty’s note last night? Thousands of Californians have stepped up and signed our petition demanding that RBG’s final wish -- to not be replaced until a new president is sworn in -- be granted.
That’s good news, because the GOP is moving fast to pack the court.
Mitch McConnell and Trump spoke last night to identify their top three choices to replace Justice Ginsburg, and Lindsey Graham, the Senate Judiciary chairman, has already flip-flopped from his 2016 vow to not fill a vacancy during an election year.
We’re committed to stopping them in their tracks, John. Please add your name to our petition if you’re ready to fight like hell with us to ensure Justice Ginsburg’s seat is not filled until a new president is sworn in.
Here’s what Senator Kamala Harris said earlier today:
“There is no doubt in my mind that Donald Trump will nominate someone who will overturn the Affordable Care Act, strip protections from immigrants, overturn Roe v. Wade, and more.
We cannot let them win this fight. Millions of Americans are counting on us to stand up, right now, and fight like hell to protect the Supreme Court -- not just for today, but for generations to come. The work of holding Senate Republicans accountable to the standard they set in 2016 starts now. To Joe and me, it is clear: The voters should pick a President, and that President should select a successor to Justice Ginsburg.”
John, as California Democrats we’ve spent the better part of this year fighting to unseat Trump, flip the Senate, and elect Democrats up and down the ballot in CA and the nation.
Now, that work becomes all the more urgent. After signing our petition, here are three things you can do right now to honor Justice Ginsburg’s legacy:
- Split a contribution between the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and us to flip the Senate blue
- Sign up to join us for our Vote 2020 Day of Action tomorrow at 1pm with Congresswoman Barbare Lee and Secretary of State Alex Padilla
- Forward this email to 5 friends
DONATE »This moment demands that we all stand together and do our part for democracy.
I know that together, we’re unstoppable.
Much more soon,
Yvette
