Few Americans have done as much as Ruth Bader Ginsburg to pull America closer to its ideals. Her tenacity, brilliance, and moral compass will be deeply missed, especially at this fraught moment.
We face momentous decisions about our future. If we are again at one of history’s turning points, as I believe we are, then we have a choice to make.
The United States is the world’s oldest and greatest democracy. It has grown in prosperity and power even as it has matured in its understanding of the rights its founders first articulated, as subsequent generations of founders sharpened those rights and extended them to people long denied them.
We must decide if we’ll take the easy path of our worst instincts and pessimism in our country, or if we will confidently rally together with vigor and optimism.
Each of us, with individual talent and spirit and hard work, is called upon to be a founder. Each of us – in obligation to others – is called upon to rebuild the republic. What if each of us were to answer that call? [[link removed]]
Friends, there is still so much more to be done for our nation, and in this historic moment we are being called on to act.
Donald Trump continues to act more akin to a dictator than the President of the United States, and with Mitch McConnell by his side, they will fight to jam through a partisan confirmation by any means necessary. This can only result in a more polarized court. Which in turn will result in the American people’s losing faith in the judgements rendered by our judicial system.
We must fight to keep the faith and to uphold justice as the law of the land. I will do everything in my power to save our highest court from the corrosive rancour of our current political divisions.
