John -- My heart is broken.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg carried the torch for justice and equality her entire career, from her law school classrooms to the highest court in the land and to her final days as she battled cancer. Her integrity and fearlessness have been an inspiration to generations of women, myself included.

Just days ago, her granddaughter Clara recorded RBG’s final wish: “My most fervent wish is that I not be replaced until a new president is installed."

America has just lost a giant. And this should be a day of mourning for every American who cares about justice. But the president and Mitch McConnell have once again placed politics above all else.

So instead of grieving, we are forced to ask ourselves: What do you want America to look like for the rest of your life? For your children?

THAT is what is at stake right now.

Do you want government, once again, to tell a woman what she can do with her body?

Do you want dark money to own our politics?

Do you want decisions on race, health care, and public education to be made by the most radically right-leaning court of our lifetimes?

Do you want gay marriage once again to be illegal?

Do you want our planet to survive?

Ultimately, do you want Donald Trump to leave the permanent stamp of three ultra-conservative Supreme Court justices to impact American life for generations?

Today, while Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death has been a reality for less than 24 hours, we ask you to consider these questions and to contact your US Senators.

We will survive her passing. But we might not survive her replacement.

We must defend and honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s legacy and final wishes.

John, as we mourn the loss of a tireless and fearless advocate for justice -- and as the future of the Supreme Court swings in the balance -- I am asking you to recommit to the days ahead and make a plan of action.

You can call your senators ([link removed]), register to vote ([link removed]), request your ballot ([link removed]), sign up to phonebank and volunteer to help elect Democrats ([link removed]), and make your plan to VOTE ([link removed]).

Justice Ginsburg’s light will continue to shine so long as we carry forth her work of relentlessly pursuing justice in the face of attacks against our democracy.

May we hold her memory with us in every fight ahead.
