Within hours of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed to hold a vote on Donald Trump’s nominee to replace her on the Supreme Court — just 45 days before the most important election in our lifetimes. When people are already voting.

There’s no doubt in my mind that a third Trump nominee on the Supreme Court would be nothing short of disastrous for our fundamental freedoms: In all likelihood, Roe v. Wade would be overturned. The Affordable Care Act would be struck down. Protections for LGBTQ folks and immigrants would be stripped away. And the list goes on.

NARAL Pro-Choice America is already fighting like hell to block any Supreme Court confirmation before the next president is inaugurated. In the coming weeks, Republican senators — especially the ones up for re-election this November — are going to pull every trick in the book to downplay and obscure the threat to Roe v. Wade and reproductive freedom. They'll dodge questions or give vague answers about why it was appropriate to block President Obama’s nominee to the Court in 2016 and want to do the complete opposite now. We can’t let them get away with it.

Remember: 77% of Americans support the legal right to abortion — and another Trump nominee directly threatens that fundamental right against the will of the majority. His shortlist of potential nominees includes anti-choice extremists like Sens. Ted Cruz and Tom Cotton, who recently tweeted that "it's time for Roe v. Wade to go."
