John, last night, on Rosh Hashanah, Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away.
RBG was a legend, a trailblazer, and a tireless advocate for equality and justice. We mourn her passing, and celebrate her incredible achievements in life. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones today.
Many folks may feel defeated and hopeless right now. But let me tell you something, John: now is not the time for hopelessness. Now is the time for action.
It's becoming increasingly clear that Trump and the Republican Senate will push through a nominee and fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court before the election, which is now only 46 days away.
Should they succeed, this will be devastating to reproductive rights, civil rights, voting rights, LGBTQ rights, and workers' rights. This will be detrimental to the Affordable Care Act, Wall Street Reform and any effort to stop climate change. There will be consequences that will be in place for decades to come.
Think about it: a Trump White House, a conservative Supreme Court, and a Republican controlled Senate could all be our future if we don't all get in the game, right now.
Let me make something very clear: we need Trump gone to build the nation we deserve. We must organize, strategize, mobilize, and VOTE in November. Join a phone bank, canvass, donate, register voters, and talk to your friends and family about the consequences we face if we don't act right now.
So today, I'm recommitting myself to do everything I can to keep up the fight that Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought until her final moments. I hope you'll join me — because her legacy of justice, progress, and equality is something we must all continue together. We need each other, now more than ever.
And to Ruth Bader Ginsburg: thank you for everything. May your memory spur us to carry the baton forward.
In solidarity,
Jamaal Bowman
