Yesterday we lost a giant of the Supreme Court.

Dear friends,

I, like so many, am shocked and saddened by the news of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing.  RBG was a giant of the Supreme Court whose legacy will go down in the annals of American history.

We can respond in two ways.  We can retreat into sadness or we can do what RBG would do.

Ruth overcame unbelievable odds.  She was one of only nine women in a law school class of more than 500.  She EXCELLED…all while taking care of a 3-year old, and a husband stricken with cancer.

RBG led the fight in courts for gender equality.  When she began, women were treated differently from men, by law. Federal and state laws restricted what women could do.  They were barred from jobs and even from jury service. By the time of her appointment, she had sparked a revolution.

RBG never slowed down, even after five bouts with cancer.  She had grit.  She kept going.

And we will too.

I appreciate all of you.  We’re going to be ok.  We just have to keep going.

She was inspired to run for office after her mom got cancer for the 5th time, and was prescribed a pill that cost $2500. Kara's mom chose to keep her house, and lost her battle with cancer after losing her life-savings to cancer drugs. As Kara watched her Republican Representative Don Bacon vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and rob millions of their access to health care, she knew she couldn't sit on the sidelines.
