On her deathbed, Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed her final wish on to her granddaughter Clara. The late justice instructed Clara to share her words with the world: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

Yesterday, we mourned the passing of an American icon and a pillar of strength. Today, we take up the fight against those who would deny Justice Ginsburg her final wish and strip from Americans the rights and protections she defended for decades.

Mitch McConnell has already promised a Senate vote on Donald Trump's next Supreme Court nominee, putting the toxic hypocrisy of the Republican party on full display. We need to fight back, and we need to win.

The last and best hope Democrats have is a historic victory in November. It's no longer enough to just keep the House or to retake the White House -- Democrats need a trifecta to protect this country from the fallout of McConnell's betrayal. We must control both legislative houses and the executive branch if we want a shield against a judiciary that would overturn Roe v. Wade, undo the protections of the Affordable Care Act, and allow the GOP to destroy our institutions.

That victory is possible. Joe Biden continues to lead in national polls and is holding onto a razor-thin margin in key battleground states. The Cook Political Report shows Democrats are currently favored to keep the House. And FiveThirtyEight declared Democrats slight favorites to retake the Senate earlier this week.

But this news will galvanize GOP voters and could easily swing toss-up races and states over the next 6 weeks.

We have to fight back NOW. We must rally every single progressive in America around the ideals that Justice Ginsburg embodied her entire life. We must elect candidates who will protect reproductive rights, preserve LGBTQ+ equality, defend health care, and safeguard undocumented Americans from the cruelties of the Republican party.

The news we received last night broke our hearts -- but we're ready to double down and work harder than ever to carry on her fight. We need to expand our efforts in close races and battleground states across the country, and we need your help.
