Friends,

Last night, we lost a remarkable hero. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the defender of justice, a champion for gender equality, reproductive justice, and civil liberty.

As the second woman ever confirmed to the Supreme Court, Ginsburg spent her entire life breaking down barriers. She challenged the structures of inequity by asking tough questions, writing legal opinions that revealed a profound depth of scholarship, and ensuring that the rights of all were protected.
Time and time again, Ginsberg stood up for justice. She fought against gender pay inequities and for the protections for women’s reproductive rights, the rights of the LGBTQ communities, the rights of the disabled, and so much more. Significantly, her landmark opinion in United States v. Virginia not only provided women admission to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) but also ensured gender equality as a constitutional right.

Justice Ginsburg wanted to be remembered as “someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability.” We will remember her for that and for much, much more. Today, we mourn. And tomorrow, we honor her legacy of sacrifice and service by continuing her fight for equity and justice for all in every aspect of our lives.

May her memory be a blessing. May her memory be a revolution.

-- Ghazala
