Good afternoon, John -
Last night, like countless Jewish American families across the country, my family was celebrating Rosh Hashanah over Zoom when my daughter broke the news of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. What started as a night of celebration quickly grew somber, as we reckoned with the loss of a hero and a champion.
Jewish tradition states that a person who passes on Rosh Hashanah is known to be a tzaddik, which means a person of justice or great righteousness. That is clearly true of RBG. So as a new year begins, we sound the shofar to honor RBG and her accomplishments.
Justice Ginsburg was a trailblazer and a firebrand her entire life. From her days in law school to her litigation and advocacy work to her 27 years on the Supreme Court, she proved to be a hero and a force to be reckoned with.
RBG inspired us every day, and each of our lives is better for her tireless efforts. Let’s take today to honor and remember her, and then take up the torch to continue the fight she led her entire life. We have work to do.
