John,

Brand New Congress is proud to announce three more amazing candidates to our growing 2020 Slate! These leaders were nominated by their communities to run for the House of Representatives, and we agree - all three of them bring tremendous energy and unique insights to the table, and will make a true impact by fighting for policies that will help all Americans!

Michael Hepburn, Florida’s 27th District

Michael A. Hepburn was born and raised in Miami. After losing his father in the 7th grade, he discovered a deep desire to be part of something bigger than himself. His passion is fueled by a love of his community, and a deep sense of gratitude for all that his city has given him. He wants to serve Florida’s 27th by giving a voice to underserved communities in South Florida, providing educational opportunities and clean, safe neighborhoods, and all help all give Flordians a chance at a brighter future.

Michael ran a fierce campaign in 2018 and he’s back on the BNC slate for 2020! Michael is answering the call to fight for a better economy, immediate action to curb the impacts of climate change, a better education system, universal childcare, healthcare for all and a fair immigration system.

In 2018, Michael and his team knocked on thousands of doors and heard from voters across the district. Michael wanted to elevate those voices any way he could, even after the election. So, he made several attempts to reach Congresswoman Donna Shalala and take the concerns of constituents to her in the hope of asking for change. Change didn’t come.

Michael’s district is tired of middle-of-the-road representatives who aren’t willing to do the people’s work. His team has the experience and they are gearing up to win in 2020.

Eva Putzova, Arizona’s 1st District

Eva Putzova was born and raised in Slovakia by parents who were local leaders and outspoken activists in the early days of the country’s post-revolution democracy. From an early age, Eva saw how people power can transform communities for the better, and learned to knock down walls and iron curtains, not build them up.

She knows that organized people outperform organized money every single time, and her persistence and leadership as a Flagstaff city councilor delivered wins like a $15.50 minimum wage, paid parental leave, a climate action plan, and an Indigenous People’s Day resolution.

As the first immigrant from Arizona elected to Congress, Eva will fight for a humane and fair immigration system, universal healthcare, tuition-free college, a Green New Deal, Indigenous rights, reproductive rights, workers’ rights, and putting a stop to these never-ending wars.

Eva decided to run for Congress after Frankie Madrid, a young activist from Flagstaff, was deported to Mexico and took his own life. Knowing the dangers of an autocratic society, she refuses to stay on the sidelines and will bring her “people first” values to Washington.

Albert Lee, Oregon’s 3rd District

In our world of super-charged rhetoric about what it means to be an American, Albert Lee is a perfect example of the diversity, perseverance, and struggle that exemplifies what our country is all about. A 6th generation American born to an African-American father and a Korean immigrant mother, Albert offers an important perspective to systemic racism and poverty. An Oregonian by choice, he is ready to represent his district with the insight of someone who knows what it means to work hard and strive for a better life.

Albert knows what struggle is because he’s experienced it first-hand. While Albert was a teenager, domestic violence left him, his mother, and his sister homeless and living in shelters. The family received help that allowed them to start over — help for which Albert remains grateful. Throughout his life, Albert witnessed what is possible when communities pull together.

Albert sees the American Dream for what it is today. It favors the wealthy over working families; and he’s fighting to level the playing field by supporting robust solutions for climate change, housing as a human right, criminal justice reform, and policies that support economic justice.

All Brand New Congress candidates sign a pledge to support our progressive platform and refuse to take corporate PAC donations. BNC is building a community of candidates that will stand together to pass real reform. Contribute today to help BNC elect Eva, Michael and Albert!
