Friend, I write to you in mourning. The magnitude of the loss of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg cannot be overstated -- we have lost one of the mightiest champions of justice of our lifetimes.

Justice Ginsburg will forever be a role model for aspiring young women. Through sheer willpower, she blazed a trail as one of the brightest and most persuasive legal minds in the country. She proved that women deserve -- and should demand -- seats in the halls of power.

Justice Ginsburg was not only a champion for women's rights, but a fierce advocate of equality for all Americans. Every one of us has benefited from her time on the bench. Her eloquent dissents represent our democracy at its best: passionate, brilliant, thoughtful debate, with ever an eye on future generations.

"That's the dissenter's hope," Justice Ginsburg once said. "That they are writing not for today, but for tomorrow."

In this time of great pain, we must look ahead to that "tomorrow" Justice Ginsburg fought for. We must honor her legacy by fighting for equality and justice as courageously as she did. We will draw strength from her unwavering commitment to our ideals; we will fight for a better tomorrow.

May she rest in peace.
