Friend,
When I was in high school, my Dad said my chances of being a CEO of a
Fortune 500 company were slim to none. Not because I wasn't smart
enough, not because I lacked ambition or the work ethic, but because I
am a woman.
He was trying to protect me from disappointment, but I took it as the
fuel to fight. And I decided I would simply own my own business. That
way, no one could tell me no.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg dedicated her entire life to equality, fighting so
women couldn't be told no on the basis of sex.
Yesterday, we lost our champion in the fight for gender and LGBTQ
equality. We lost a champion who always protected what is right and
fair.
In Congress, I will carry on the mantle that RBG has left for us. I will
continue to extend my hand to other women, to mentor, to lift them up
and to create policy that reflects our lives.
There are more barriers to break, more injustices to right. We must
fight on in her name.
The Notorious RBG may no longer be with us, but today, we are all RBG.
