Greetings! We all have explosions that turn our lives upside down — whether it be at work, at school, with family or anything else. For our family, it was a literal explosion 10 years ago today when my husband, now Republican Congressman, Brian Mast was blown up by terrorists while serving in Afghanistan, losing two legs and a finger. It may have been 10 years ago, but I remember the morning of September 19, 2010 like it was yesterday. I received a knock on the door at seven o’clock in the morning. I walked down stairs, and I could see men in uniform outside the window. I immediately froze on the bottom step. I was thinking the worst: every military spouse’s worst nightmare was now my life. But by the grace of God, and through the bravery and quick action of his team on the ground, my husband’s life was spared, and we have come to refer to this day in our household as “Brian’s Alive Day.” A lot has changed in the last 10 years: Brian learned to walk again, he dedicated himself to God and became a Christian, we had 3 more beautiful children, he graduated from Harvard, and he earned the support of our community to become a Republican representative in Congress. He’s also become more compassionate and understanding about the physical or metaphorical explosions that have shaped others lives. Some things haven’t changed: Brian still has every bit of the passion to serve our country and the drive to fight for our community that he had before he was blown up. And today more than ever our country needs fighters like Brian who will go to the ends of the earth fighting for what is right and just. That’s why I am personally asking for your urgent help before midnight tonight to support my husband Brian in his latest fight — for the soul of our nation and the heart of our community. Brian’s political opponent has suggested an “open season” of violence against conservatives, she’s compared American law enforcement to the gestapo and she’s even suggested President Trump is going to be assassinated by his political enemies. If this sounds as horrific to you as it does to me, can you please rush a donation of $10 or more in recognition of the 10 year anniversary of Brian’s explosion? DONATE $10 DONATE ANOTHER AMOUNT Friend - when I arrived at Walter Reed back in 2010 and I first saw Brian lying on the bed in the hospital room, he couldn’t speak because of the tubes in his mouth. But I knew the fight was still there because he was desperately trying to tell me everything was going to be okay. He’s been a fighter from day one, and I knew he would find a new battlefield to continue his service to our nation. I won’t lie: Brian’s new battlefield in politics isn’t always easy on our family. The negative political attacks are often tough on us. Over the years, we’ve heard some outlandish accusations, but I know Brian’s character, and he always rises above it. So, I want to use this as an opportunity to turn a negative day 10 years ago into a positive day today. In political fundraising, there’s a term called a “money bomb.” What this means is that you make a donation today, and at the same time, commit to making a donation of an equal amount at the end of the month when campaign budgets are the tightest. Brian has never let the bomb that tore off his legs stop him, so in honor of the 10 year anniversary, let’s show the terrorists that they may have taken Brian’s legs but they haven’t taken our country’s spirit! Will you commit to join our Alive Day Money Bomb today? JOIN THE ALIVE DAY MONEY BOMB If you can afford to help, I know Brian would greatly appreciate it. He has never failed to step up to the plate when his country needed him, and we cannot fail him now. Thank you so much for your generosity today, and God bless America!
