Rhode Island is one of only two states in the nation requiring risk limiting election audits - but we cannot afford for them to be the last.

Dear John,
On Monday, the Verified Voting ([link removed]) team, along with Common Cause ([link removed]) and the Brennan Center for Justice ([link removed]) at NYU Law, released a report ([link removed]) on “Risk-Limiting Audit Methods in the State of Rhode Island.” This report details Rhode Island’s risk-limiting audit (RLA) pilot program, and identifies the most effective methods to implement RLAs for the 2020 election.

The Rhode Island RLA pilot is a critical step towards increasing voter confidence and strengthening election security in the state. Paper ballots coupled with routine RLAs are the best way to ensure secure and accurate election results. As this pilot demonstrates, RLAs can also be conducted without overwhelming data sets or incurring exorbitant costs.
The working group helped Rhode Island design and run the pilots on the ground earlier this year, and the report offers a roadmap and framework for other states to implement their own RLAs. We are proud of the countless hours of work that our Verified Voting team churned out in collaboration with Common Cause, the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law, and the Rhode Island Board of Elections.

Rhode Island and Colorado are currently the only states in the nation requiring statewide RLAs — but we cannot afford for them to be the last. Verified Voting will continue to provide valuable assistance both to states moving toward this standard and those in need of guidance as we work tirelessly to ensure voter confidence and verifiable election results. Your support, and those of voters like you, plays a vital role in these efforts. If you have not done so recently, please consider taking a moment to make a gift ([link removed]) or share our work with your friends and colleagues.
As always, thank you for your involvement with us, and stay tuned for more updates as we work together to build confidence in the security of our elections.
Sincerely,
Marian K. Schneider
President, Verified Voting
