Rest in power, Ruth Bader Ginsburg

This email is about the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We know it's Rosh Hashanah. And we know many people are in mourning. If you need to take a moment before jumping back into the fight, please take it.

Hey Swing Left,

Last night, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away at age 87 from pancreatic cancer. We’re devastated. RBG was a trailblazer for women’s rights who spent 27 years on the Supreme Court fighting tooth and nail for reproductive freedom, civil rights, and justice for all. Rest in power, Justice Ginsburg.

We’re in mourning, and we’re scared, but we can’t stop our work. Mitch McConnell is already threatening to fill her seat with another Trump-appointed justice. We cannot and will not let that happen—too many lives are on the line. So we’re going to do every damn thing we can to keep RBG’s seat open until January when a Democratic president and Senate can rightfully fill it.

Since the news broke, thousands of Swing Left volunteers have given to flip the Senate. It’s one immediate, strategic step we can take right now to help Democrats maximize pressure on vulnerable Republican senators. So we’re prioritizing our Senate Fund, where we can donate to help flip the eight closest Senate seats in Alaska, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. Every dollar you give will go directly to candidates.

Give now

This fund targets vulnerable Republican senators like Lindsey Graham, Joni Ernst, and Thom Tillis—and we’ll keep an eye on how they respond in the coming days. They need to know that if they vote for a Trump justice, we'll make it all but impossible for them to win in November.

RBG spent her life fighting for justice. Just days ago, she told her granddaughter: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new President is installed.”

Together, we’re going to fight to honor her wish.

Don’t let fear win. Don’t give up hope. Keep fighting.
