We are less than 7 weeks away from election day and very soon absentee voters will begin to cast their ballots! It's Get Out the Vote Season. 

 

If you're wondering what you can do in your county, look no further than the Monongalia County Can't Wait Team! With leadership from Captains Rachel Byrne and Elliot Dotson (and the help of Sarah Hutson and Emily Thompson), they've cooked up a strategy for GOTV season that you can replicate in your county!

 

You can try out one or both of these strategies.

 

Part 1: Literature Drops

1) Find the candidates on your local slate: wvcantwait.com/find-your-not-for-sale-candidates

2) Design a card that represents the full list. Monongalia County Can't Wait's is pictured below as an example.

3) Place an order for your cards. We recommend checking out the Printing Press. They're based in WV are women-owned and they're union. You can reach them at: 304-744-7949 or [email protected]. Say Katey sent you and you may get a discount. (If you need help paying for the cost of your cards, let me know and we can ask the WV Can't Wait Action Committee if they’ll cover it.)

4) Create a list of voters in your area that you can target. No sure how to do this? Contact Sarah ([email protected]​) and she'll show you how!

5) Schedule a weekly time for your team to meet up and drop cards at these voters doors. For example, your team could meet 12-2 on Saturdays.

 

Part 2: Work Parties

1) Find the candidates on your local slate: wvcantwait.com/find-your-not-for-sale-candidates

2) Reach out to them and ask what volunteer tasks you can help with: filling out postcards, making phone calls, delivering yard signs?

3) Schedule a weekly time for your team to meet up and do work that these candidates give you. (Cool idea: The Monongalia County Team is hosting "WV Can't Wait Wednesdays" at an outdoor public pavilion with lots of room to be safe, masks required).
