Dear Friend,
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an icon, a trailblazer and a tireless defender of our nation’s highest ideals. So much of what I do as a civil rights advocate, an attorney, and a Muslim woman is possible because of what she accomplished.
Justice Ginsburg’s loss is immeasurable. I deeply mourn her passing and send my condolences to her family at this difficult time.
Today and every day going forward, we must channel her spirit and honor her legacy by fighting for freedom, justice and equality for all. Right now, that means we must defend our democracy and ensure that the Supreme Court belongs to the people.
There should be no confirmation vote on any new justice until after the inauguration of the next president in January 2021. Millions of Americans have already started voting. The next president, and no one else, should be the one to nominate Justice Ginsburg’s replacement.
Muslim Advocates is ready to lead. Our team has already been strategizing with our partners in the civil rights community on next steps. In the face of this administration’s ongoing assault on communities of color and outright disrespect for the rule of law, we know that you entrust us to defend the civil rights that Justice Ginsburg fought so hard to protect.
Together, we will preserve our democracy.
