"If it is a matter of strength, he is mighty! And if it is a matter of justice, who can challenge him?"
- Job 9:19
Africa & Europe
-
On September 2, IJM Uganda kicked off a three-week rapid capacity assessment covering nine districts across Uganda, including Kampala. Halfway through the team has strengthened relationships with justice service providers and gained a deeper understanding of the strengths and weaknesses in the justice system for responding to cases of violence against women and children. Praise God that stakeholders and service providers have been so open and engaged in the process, and are very excited to be working with IJM. Pray for the team's safety and for full participation from partners as they complete the assessment in the next few days. Latin America
- Pray for provision for the survivors and families of violence who our teams and partners support in Latin America. One of the many challenges due to COVID-19 in the region is how many people have lost their jobs, and thus, a stable income. As many countries evaluate safe reopening options, pray that God would provide safe job opportunities for those who depend on daily income.
South Asia
- Please pray for two people rescued this week from slavery at a borewell-digging worksite. Their plight was discovered by one of IJM's trusted partners, and we are so grateful for the swift work of government officials to liberate them. Please pray for the ongoing documentation of evidence against the slave holder and for short-term aftercare for these laborers — that they would feel safe, get good rest and begin thriving in freedom again. Pray that, as we get to know their stories, we could serve them well and help them on the journey to restoration and hope.
Southeast Asia
- Praise God that we have been able to hire a Director to lead the pilot team in Myanmar that will support our program addressing cross-border trafficking and forced labor in the Thai fishing industry. Pray for this team as they walk alongside migrant workers who have been exploited in the Thai fishing industry and are seeking legal and/or aftercare support.
IJM HQ & Global Partners
IJM headquarters is located in the United States. IJM has
international advancement offices in Australia, Canada, Germany, the
Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
- Pray for deep rest and renewal during a prayer retreat for the HQ and North American Regional staff. One of our spiritual disciplines as an organization is to regularly lay down our work and spend a full day in prayer together, knowing that the work to end slavery is only possible with God. In the midst of this season with different individual circumstances of personal loss, isolation, or increased burden, please pray that the messages from our speakers, which are examining the year's theme of hope, would be just the right word at the right time.
