Governor Hogan is endorsing Senator Susan Collins for re-election in two new ads, calling her “exactly the kind of independent, thoughtful, and effective leader that we desperately need in the Senate."

Just the day before this endorsement, Governor Hogan met virtually with a bicameral meeting of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus to discuss their compromise stimulus proposal, releasing a statement calling "for the rest of Congress to follow the lead of the Problem Solvers Caucus, put politics aside, and pass a real and meaningful agreement.” Governor Hogan also appeared on an ABC “Vote or Miss Out” special to encourage Americans to get involved and vote in state and local elections.

This comes as Maryland health insurance premiums for the individual market have declined for the third consecutive year. Overall, premiums have fallen over 30% since 2018 – the same year that Governor Hogan passed bipartisan health legislation to stabilize the market.

“Independent, Thoughtful, and Effective:” Governor Hogan Endorses Senator Collins For Re-Election​ in Two New Ads​ ​

Governor Hogan is endorsing Senator Susan Collins for re-election in two new ads, calling her “exactly the kind of independent, thoughtful, and effective leader that we desperately need in the Senate." Senator Collins consistently ranks [link removed] as the most bipartisan member of the Senate. 

The ads are part of a $450,000 digital campaign in support of Senator Collins from the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC).

In the first ad, titled “Independent,” Governor Hogan praises Senator Collins for being part of Maine’s “long-history of independent-thinking leaders” and urges voters to re-elect her.

In the second ad, titled “Bipartisan,” Governor Hogan appears alongside former Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker to vouch for Senator Collins’ bipartisan and independent leadership.

Governor Hogan Meets With Problem Solvers Caucus, Praises Their Bipartisan Work on Stimulus Package ​

Governor Hogan met virtually with a bicameral meeting of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus this morning to discuss their “March to Common Ground” proposal and to provide an update on the bipartisan interstate rapid testing compact.

Last month, Governor Hogan successfully negotiated [link removed] a historic bipartisan interstate compact with the Rockefeller Foundation and ten states – including five Democratic governors and five Republican governors –  to acquire 5 million rapid-response COVID-19 tests. This new generation of accurate tests delivers results in 15 to 20 minutes, providing a vital tool to detect and contain potential outbreaks. Maryland has already acquired 250,000 of these tests, which will be deployed to nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, and correctional and juvenile detention centers across the state. 

Ahead of the meeting, Governor Hogan released a statement [link removed] thanking the Problem Solvers Caucus for “efforts to reach a bipartisan compromise on much-needed COVID19 relief” and for “including $500 billion of critical aid for state and local governments.” As Governor Hogan wrote, “the American people can’t afford for Congress to punt this issue until after the election. While the rest of the country continues to experience rising health care costs, insurance premiums are actually declining in Maryland thanks to Governor Hogan’s innovative and bipartisan reforms. 

Yesterday, Governor Hogan announced Maryland health insurance premiums for the individual market have declined for the third consecutive year. Overall, premiums have fallen over 30% since 2018 – the same year that Governor Hogan passed bipartisan health legislation to stabilize the market. 

Prior to Governor Hogan’s innovative reforms, Maryland’s health insurance premiums had experienced double-digit percent increases for two consecutive years.

Governor Hogan Appears on ABC Special to Encourage Americans to Vote in State and Local Elections

Governor Hogan appeared on an ABC “Vote or Miss Out” special to encourage Americans to get involved and vote in state and local elections.

The one-hour program featured celebrities like Larry David, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, and Lebron James, as well as political spouses Michelle Obama, Ann Romney, and Cindy McCain. 

Governor Hogan argued in his message, “the work of local public servants isn’t glamorous. But it’s absolutely vital to our everyday lives.”

ICYMI: Governor Hogan Appeals For Bipartisanship at Ford School of Public Policy, World Affairs Council of Philadelphia Events​ ​

Governor Hogan joined University of Michigan Ford School of Public Policy and World Affairs Council of Philadelphia virtual events to argue that bipartisan leadership is still possible in this divisive time. 

At the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, Governor Hogan spoke with General Wesley Clark about how we can unite America after this presidential election. 

Addressing the Ford School of Public Policy, Governor Hogan noted that President Ford – a University of Michigan graduate and close friend of Governor Hogan’s father – was “known for” civility and working across the aisle. 

Pointing to the leadership of governors throughout the country and his administration in Maryland as a current model, Governor Hogan appealed to the students to “look for the best ideas” regardless of what party they came from “because that’s what we desperately need in America.”
