As a high school senior in Aurora, Illinois, this year will be my first timing voting in an election. I couldn’t be more excited!

I’m a big fan of learning about American history, so I know the importance of voting. And as a young woman and African-American, I identify with the struggles of my predecessors in both the women’s and civil rights movement to make it possible for me to cast a ballot.

Tuesday, September 22 is National Voter Registration Day. Save the Children Action Network is joining thousands of other organizations throughout the country to make sure we get as many eligible voters as possible to register so they can vote in this critical election. 

This year in particular, it’s important to register early so if you plan to vote by mail you have enough time to receive your ballot and send it back by your state’s deadline. You can learn more about how to vote when you register through our online voter registration tool. 

I’m taking this election so seriously that I’m even exploring becoming a poll worker, especially so my older neighbors who usually play that role don’t have to put their health at risk this year. 

Registering is fast, easy, and it’s the first step in making sure your voice gets heard in November.
