As if this year couldn't get worse, the unthinkable just happened.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died of cancer. Her legacy deserves hundreds of pages of tribute.
But the urgency of this moment means we need to focus on her final wish: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new President is installed."
EMERGENCY PETITION TO SENATORS: "Every Senator must publicly say: No confirmation until inauguration. Every Democrat must declare that if Republicans violate Ginsburg's wish (and their own stated principle from 2016), we will expand the Court if Democrats take power." Sign here and pass it on.
If you know a Senator, Senate staffer, Senate candidate, or Senate campaign staffer, please pass this email to them.
Outrage: McConnell is already being evil. He just said, "President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”
Hell no! Senator Ed Markey is first out of the gate saying the right thing: "Mitch McConnell set the precedent. No Supreme Court vacancies filled in an election year. If he violates it, when Democrats control the Senate in the next Congress, we must abolish the filibuster and expand the Supreme Court."
Former Obama Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer reminds us specifically what Mitch McConnell said in 2016 as he denied President Obama the ability to appoint a replacement for Justice Scalia, who died in February of an election year:
Please sign the petition to Senators now: "Every Senator must publicly say: No confirmation until inauguration. Every Democrat must declare that if Republicans violate Ginsburg's wish (and their own stated principle from 2016), we will expand the Court if Democrats take power." Sign here and pass it on.
Thank you.
