Hello,
This is one of the hardest emails I’ve ever had to write. Tonight, we lost one of the greatest public servants of our time: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
It’s not too much to say that Ruth Bader Ginsburg represented the best of our nation. She was a champion for equality, for expanding civil rights, and making our union a more perfect one for everyone.
I hope you’ll join me in keeping Justice Ginsburg’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers over the coming hours, days, and weeks.
This is a time for mourning, but unfortunately, I’m sure Mitch McConnell is somewhere right now writing a statement to the press saying that he will try to fill this now-vacant seat before the election. It’s disgusting, of course. It’s hypocritical, of course. But it’s not unexpected.
So while I know tonight that you’re as sad as I am – maybe even as scared as I am – about what this means for the future of our country and our democracy, I promise you this: If Mitch McConnell tries to fill this vacancy before the election, we will make him pay for it at the ballot box. We will vote him out.
Let’s send Mitch McConnell and every single Republican senator up for reelection a simple message: This is a solemn moment. Now is not the time for politics. Honor the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and allow the next president to appoint her replacement.
I mourn with you tonight. But tomorrow, we fight.
Thank you for all you do,
~Ryan
