Summer is now in the rearview mirror and the beautiful colors of fall have arrived. And the first signs of frost were even visible last weekend. It's days like this when I'm glad I was able to take advantage of those beautiful summer days!

Public Hearings Set for Ballot Measures 1 & 2
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor has scheduled public hearings for two ballot measures that will appear on the November 3rd General Election Ballot. Anchorage (District 3) will have an opportunity to call in and ask questions next week on September 23rd. Be advised that the first hour is for those in District 3 calling outside the Anchorage area.
Ballot Measure #2 - Alaska's Better Elections Initiative ([link removed])
** Wednesday, September 23 – 10:00AM – 12:00PM – District 3 call in date

* In an effort to allow for all parts of the region to ask questions pertaining to the proposed initiative- the public question portion of the meeting will be broken up into two distinct sections. Members living in District 3, other than Anchorage residents, will be allowed to ask questions until 11:00AM. At 11:00AM we will open up the phone lines to all residents of District 3 including Anchorage.

AK Cares Act Grant Program
No Longer Accepting Applications

The AK CARES online application portal closed at 5:00pm on Tuesday, September 15th, after more than $100 million in excess of the program’s cap had been requested.
If remaining AK CARES grant funds are available after all applications received between June 1st and September 15th have been processed, we will reopen the online application portal with advance notice to the public.
If you chose to submit an application on or after September 2nd after the program was oversubscribed, please be aware that there is a high likelihood your application may not be funded. If you are looking for other funding programs that may be available to you, please visit COVID-19 Recovery Resource Portal for Business ([link removed]) website.

Absentee Ballot and Early Voting Information
The General election is around the corner and will be held on November 3rd. A person must be registered to vote at least 30 days before an election and early voting begins 15 days before the election. For more information on early voting and absentee voting options or to request an absentee ballot ([link removed]) visit the Alaska Division of Elections ([link removed]) website.

Make Sure You're Counted - Deadline 9-30-20
The 2020 U.S. Census is underway and Alaska is still lagging in the percent of Alaskans that have completed the Census. Every 10 years, as mandated by the Constitution the nation counts the population to determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S House of Representatives and to determine how federal funds will be distributed to each state.
