Dear John,
We were incredibly impressed by the 285 applicants for this year’s Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching. Learning about the work of these educators reaffirmed the creativity and commitment to social justice education that makes us so grateful for the TT community.
In their curricula and beyond, the five educators who won the award integrate the domains of TT’s Social Justice Standards in astounding ways. The winners are:
- Kaitlin Kamalei Brandon of Leschi Elementary School in Seattle, Washington
- Sam Long of Standley Lake High School in Westminster, Colorado
- Rosie Reid of Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, California
- Erin Shadowens of Brooklyn Prospect Charter School in Brooklyn, New York
- Kia Turner of Harlem Academy in New York, New York
Here’s a look at some of the work our 2020 awardees are doing in their schools every day.
Congratulations to the winners, and cheers to the work of our community of educators across the country!
