** CITES CoP18 unpacked – the wins and losses ([link removed])

The 18^th Conference of the Parties (CoP18) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) was held in Geneva in August and our campaigners were there to push for strong decisions to combat illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade. We welcomed progress to tackle demand for Asian big cat parts and tiger farms, recommendations to urge closure of domestic markets for ivory, rhino horn and Asian big cats and new protections for a host of tree species.

** Changes in China won't end pangolin trade ([link removed])

China is revising its list of protected wildlife species for the first time since 1988, potentially giving many official protection for the first time. Plans include upgrading protection for pangolins but this would not end legal trade in their scales.

** Jailed for timber crime ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------

A court in Indonesia has jailed the directors of four different companies for one year each and also fined them after they pleaded guilty to transporting merbau with falsified documents following the seizure of 57 containers filled with illegal wood.
