Supporter,

Fires raging across the West Coast—from Washington down through Southern California—have burned millions of acres, destroyed thousands of homes and buildings, and caused the death of more than 30 people. Tens of thousands of people in Oregon have been displaced, California is experiencing the largest fire in its history, and thick smoke has blanketed the entire coast, making the air hazardous to breathe—an even greater health risk in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even as firefighters are getting some fires under control, the largest blazes are still uncontained, and it's uncertain how much worse these fires will get. Among the most impacted communities are farmworkers, who now have to work amid unhealthy or dangerous levels of air pollution. Many farmworkers are already especially vulnerable to COVID-19 and face barriers to accessing needed support—all while harvesting the food we all need to sustain ourselves.

Organizations like the Rogue Valley Relief Fund, Opportunities Industrialization Center of Washington, and the United Farm Workers Foundation are doing vital work directly in their communities—everything from providing shelter and food to long-term support in the aftermath of the fires. But they need help. That's why we're asking you to support relief and recovery efforts of groups who know what's needed on the ground to help people in need right now—and in the weeks and months the fires have been put out. If you give today, 100% of your gift will go to these organizations.

Support relief and recovery efforts across the West Coast with a donation today. 100% of your gift will help these communities.

The destruction of the fires is made even worse as the COVID-19 pandemic makes evacuation and fire fighting even more difficult and dangerous. A changing climate has increased the risk of unnaturally large and dangerous fires, and will only lead to worse fire seasons in the future.

But as we work to combat the climate crisis that is the root cause of the fires, the people and communities directly affected by this need your support to directly help the communities hit hardest by these disasters immediately.

Donate today and 100% of your gift will support organizations working with people most affected by wildfires on the West Coast.

Thank you for anything you can do to help.

Sincerely,

Laura Stevens

The COVID-19 crisis has not passed and continues to disproportionately harm Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people and other communities of color. The pandemic has revealed how the communities hardest hit are often the same communities that suffer from high levels of pollution and poor access to healthcare. The fight for environmental justice cannot be separated from the fight for racial justice.
