Patriot,
Today is the Jewish holiday of Rosh HaShanah—the start of the
New Year.
To my Jewish and Christian friends alike, “Shanah tovah
um’tukah” (May you have a good and sweet New Year).
For the next two days, on the traditional anniversary of the
creation of Adam and Eve, we reflect on humanity’s role in the
divinely-created world.
Of all the events in the Jewish calendar, Rosh Hashanah is
particularly dear to me. The holiday’s Biblical name is Yom
Teruah, which literally means the “day of shouting,” or, “day of
putting things on blast.”
Custom dictates sounding a shofar, or ram’s horn, during prayer
services to “raise a noise”—a Jewish tradition, and a lifelong
vocation, to which I am uniquely dedicated.
This year, I call on Jews and Christians everywhere to raise a
noise in response to the growing threat of anti-Semitism in the
West.
We face a uniquely troubling political landscape in America, in
which elected representatives show no hesitation in expressing
their contempt for the Jewish people and our greatest ally in the
Middle East, Israel. We all have a responsibility to speak out
about these moral horrors.
Rosh Hashanah is also a time to think about our shortcomings,
and resolve to do better. We are taught that God is especially
open to repentance during the High Holidays, so it’s during this
time that we can hope for an especially receptive ear.
Tonight, I’ll be dipping apples in honey with my campaign,
family and friends with a toast to a sweet new year, looking
forward to wholesome and prosperous times to come. We wish you
all a happy and healthy new year. L’shanah tova!
Thank you again for all that you do.
Respectfully,
Laura Loomer
