This week, a whistleblower filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security regarding an ICE facility in Georgia that she alleges is guilty of medical neglect and performing an abnormally high rate of hysterectomies on detainees.
The family of Breonna Taylor, an EMT who was shot to death by police in March, was awarded a $12 million settlement by the city of Louisville. The settlement includes a number of measures intended to help reform the city's police force.
The Intra-Afghan peace talks began this week, with a focus on a ceasefire and and women's and human rights. Afghanistan was also awarded a seat on the UN's Commission on the Status of Women for the first time in history.

Whistleblower Reveals ICE Facility Practiced Forced Hysterectomies [[link removed]]
On Monday, Dawn Wooton, a whistleblower who formerly worked as a nurse at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Georgia filed a complaint to the Department of Homeland Security inspector general, detailing medical neglect and a high rate of hysterectomies in the facility.

Afghan Peace Talks: Focus on Ceasefire and Women’s Rights [[link removed]]
Months after an agreement was signed between the United States and the Taliban, the Intra-Afghan talks began this week. The opening ceremony received international attention, and many of the speeches given by representatives from partner countries focused on ceasefire and women’s rights and human rights. Afghan women have made clear that they will not accept a deal that will jeopardize their rights and that the structure of the government and the Constitution of Afghanistan must not remove the provision of equality.

Yesterday, the city of Louisville announced a $12 million settlement with the family of Breonna Taylor, as well as some reforms to the Louisville police force.

Afghanistan Gains a Seat on the UN Commission on the Status of Women [[link removed]]
On September 14, 2020, for the first time in history, Afghanistan secured a seat at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). Afghanistan received the highest amount of votes and committed to promoting gender equality and women empowerment globally.
