Hi there,
Donald Trump and his so-called EPA have no interest in actually protecting the environment or following the law. The EPA has a statutory mandate to protect our environment and the American people. But the administration's new proposal to gut the EPA's Clean Power Plan shamelessly panders to the fossil fuel industry at the expense of our health and the environment.
That's why my 47th lawsuit against President Trump, filed last month, seeks to prevent his administration from taking this egregious step in violation of the Clean Air Act.
The Clean Power Plan was originally adopted in 2015 under the Obama administration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants and to work toward cleaner energy alternatives. The EPA's own analysis shows that the increased pollution caused by the Clean Power Plan's removal could result in thousands more becoming ill and dying every year. Our state has already experienced adverse impacts of climate change -- including rising sea levels, increased flooding, increased wildfires, and ocean acidification.
The Trump administration puts profits over people, especially when it comes to the environment. The White House categorically denies the cause of the climate crisis, chooses corporate donors over the American people's health, and then has the audacity to try and prevent states from taking environmental action.
I refuse to let President Trump further jeopardize Washington's environment. His replacement "Affordable Clean Energy" rule is neither clean nor affordable. It is one more big handout to Big Oil and Big Coal.
I'll always stand up to him when he tries to put profits over people and planet, harming people in our state. Our team is 21-0 against President Trump -- and I plan to keep winning.
Stay tuned for further developments in this case,
Bob
