This week we saw a major breakthrough that has been years in the making, with legislative leaders joining Governor Phil Murphy in announcing their support for reinstating the millionaires tax. I want to thank Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin for recognizing the urgency of tax fairness, now as so many of our middle class families are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic than ever before. When signed into law, this will help cement New Jersey as one of the most progressive, forward thinking states in the nation.

In addition to the millionaires tax, which will raise the top marginal income tax rate on earnings over $1 million from 8.97% to 10.75%, the Governor also announced a new policy aimed squarely at making New Jersey fairer -- a $500 middle class tax rebate. This new idea, championed by Speaker Coughlin, will result in direct financial assistance to 800,000 middle class families in our state, many of whom are struggling with lost jobs and wages. That money can mean a month of groceries, car payments, parts of rent and many other essential costs that families must handle.

Continuing to support candidates running in competitive districts throughout the state, Governor Murphy traveled to Brigantine this week to join congressional candidate Amy Kennedy as she announced her South Jersey Infrastructure Plan [[link removed]] . The Governor stressed the importance of electing Amy, lauding commitment to getting things done from investing in much needed infrastructure, to ensuring that everyone has access to affordable health care or helping to bring good-paying jobs to South Jersey.
Thank you,
