At our statewide Zoom meeting Tuesday night, we talked to five state legislative candidates who are running in pivot areas of the state that voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 before going for Donald Trump in 2016. Now our organizing team is coordinating a corps of volunteers around the state to send tens of thousands of text messages to voters in support of our endorsed candidates. After that, we'll turn to phone calling. If you've got some time to spare in the days and weeks to come, we could sure use your help.
We're doing all this earlier than we would have in past election years because so many people will be voting well before November 3. Speaking of voting, we're also reaching out as far and wide as possible to get voters what they need to know to make sure their ballots are cast and counted.
On another subject, Our Wisconsin Revolution has been working with other groups to convince Wisconsin's Public Service Commission to extend the moratorium on utility disconnections to provide relief during the pandemic to some of the state's most vulnerable families, and we're pleased to report that the PSC yesterday responded favorably to our requests for the third time. We sent a letter on July 16 to the PSC urging the agency to extend the moratorium and followed that with a letter-writing campaign urging others to add their voices to ours. On July 23 the PSC extended the moratorium until September 1. We then submitted comments to the PSC again on August 7 urging further extension of the moratorium. On August 20 the PSC approved an additional extension until October 1. We weighed in again in recent days leading up to yesterday's action.
