The United States Postal Service is a critical lifeline for thousands of cities and rural communities across America. That could not be more true for my district in the heart of Alabama's Black Belt, which includes the urban center of Birmingham, where these communities still heavily depend on the Postal Service.
The USPS is an essential government service that allows our small businesses across the country to thrive, our seniors to receive their prescriptions, and our communities to receive critical government communications like vote-by-mail ballots and census forms.
But Donald Trump has proven that he’ll undermine and degrade the USPS in order to get himself reelected. For months, his Administration has attempted to undermine the operations of the Postal Service, strip it of its funding, and even threatened to withhold federal funding from states if they allow the safe and secure alternative of mail-in voting during the pandemic.
That’s why I proudly voted for the Delivering for America Act: a bill to help fund the Postal Service and protect the 8,000 essential Alabama postal service workers who are on the frontlines of this pandemic.
Folks, Donald Trump’s efforts to undermine the Postal Service is a direct threat to our right to vote and to the lifeline that urban and rural communities here in Alabama depend on. I’m asking 5,000 of our strongest grassroots supporters to sign this petition demanding that the current Administration stop undermining the USPS -- Can I count on you to add your name? →
Thanks for using your voice,
Terri Sewell
