ALL EYES ON UPTON
U.S. Congressman Fred Upton is running the "most homophobic campaign" against an openly LGBTQ candidate right now. [[link removed]] Not an easy title to achieve, but he’s pulled it off.
Upton, who is running a campaign supposedly based on civility, is actually running a campaign based on homophobic tropes [[link removed]] . When you can’t go high, you go as low as possible.
The NRCC has been running attacks and sending mailers to prospective voters calling Hoadley a “pedo sex poet” [[link removed]] and wildly misinterpreting Jon’s past live journal posts to smear his campaign.
Jon has called for an end to the “swamp politics” from Upton and his D.C. friends [[link removed]] and speaking out against hate-based politicking [[link removed]] .
Unlike Upton, Jon continues to run a clean campaign. He also announced an endorsement from Vice President Joe Biden [[link removed]] !
SEPTEMBER VICTORIES
Three BIG wins to report from Delaware: Sarah McBride [[link removed]] , Eric Morrison [[link removed]] , and Marie Pinkney [[link removed]] won their primaries! Delaware is one of just five states that has never elected an openly LGBTQ state legislator.
When she wins in November, Sarah will make history as the first openly trans state Senator in U.S. history [[link removed]] .
Eric, who will make history as the first openly LGBTQ state Representative elected in Delaware [[link removed]] , defeated a longtime incumbent who once attacked him for performing as a drag queen [[link removed]] .

RAINBOW WAVE 2020
Growing up, Georgette Gómez couldn’t find a lot of politicians that looked like her. Now, she’s running to fight injustice – and inspire the next generation [[link removed]] .
Pete Buttigieg announced a new round of endorsements: he’s standing with Mondaire Jones, Ritchie Torres, Sarah McBride and Torrey Harris [[link removed]] !
Fabian Nelson earned a big endorsement from Run for Something in his special election for the Mississippi state house [[link removed]] ! Election Day is next Tuesday and he could become the first out LGBTQ state legislator in Mississippi history!
Brandon Thomas is running to be one of Tennessee’s first openly LGBTQ state legislators. Before he wins, he’s using his platform for good. Read his latest op-ed here [[link removed]] .
Running as a first time LGBTQ candidate isn’t easy and running as an incumbent can be even harder. Hear about life on the campaign trail with Senior Political Director Sean Meloy, New Mexico state Senator Liz Stefanics, Florida state Representative Jennifer Webb and Colorado state Representative Brianna Titone on their reelection campaigns [[link removed]] !

LGBTQ Victory Fund has helped thousands of openly LGBTQ candidates win elections up and down the ballot, from sea to shining sea since our founding in 1991. We believe representation is power so we elected U.S. Senators Tammy Baldwin and Kyrsten Sinema, Governors Jared Polis and Kate Brown, all seven LGBTQ members of U.S. Congress and countless candidates for state and local government, including Virginia Delegate Danica Roem, Colorado state Representative Leslie Herod and Pennsylvania Assemblymember Brian Sims. And with an unprecedented number of LGBTQ people running for office in this year, we’ll need your support to make 2020 the next Rainbow Wave.
