Hi John,
The wildfires in the Pacific Northwest are still raging -- and folks on the East Coast are now waking up to clouds of smoke thousands of miles away from us.
My team, my family, and I are so thankful for the firefighters working 12 hour-plus shifts in the thick of it all. They are sacrificing their livelihoods to control the wildfires, and we know they are doing everything they can to protect our communities.
But that doesn't mean the damage already done is reversible. Whitman County has been hit particularly hard by the fires. In Malden, over 80 percent of homes and structures have burned down.
County Sheriff Brett Myers had this to say about the damage:
"The scale of this disaster really can't be expressed in words. The fire will be extinguished but a community has been changed for a lifetime."
And while we know the road to tackling climate change and slowing down the climate crisis is long, our neighbors are in need of immediate help right now -- and we simply cannot wait, John. Families are without their homes tonight and need relief.
That's why I must ask, can you join me and chip in $5 or more right now to the United Way of Whitman County's Community Relief Fund to help our fellow Washingtonians rebuild after this tragedy?
