Over 3.4 million acres of California have burned already – more than any other year on record. Tens of thousands of people have been forced to evacuate, some losing their homes, livelihoods, or loved ones. Millions have been breathing toxic air.
And while Governor Newsom pays lip-service to the climate crisis, behind the curtain he continues to approve thousands of new oil and gas permits, literally digging our hole deeper. It’s infuriating.
We’ve got intel that Newsom is about to make a climate-related announcement, so now is a key moment to double down efforts to demand he stand up to big oil. California is the 5th largest economy in the world and that’s why it’s important for everyone reading this email – in every corner of the country – to speak up.
We need you now. Help respond to California’s fire crisis by telling Governor Newsom: Stop fueling the flames. Reverse course by halting new oil and gas permits and phasing out fossil fuels in California. Do it now.

The more people who speak up now, the louder we’ll be heard, and the more leverage we’ll have to get Newsom on board with our demands – right ahead of Climate Week next week.
The truth is that Governor Newsom has been fanning the flames of California fires since the moment he took office. He’s approved over 1,500 new oil and gas wells just this year – even walking back his moratorium on dangerous fracking in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
California is supposed to be a leader in the fight to slow catastrophic climate change. Right now, Newsom is failing us. But if we succeed at pressuring him, we can set a precedent for more states to keep fossil fuels in the ground.
There is no time to lose:
Add your name to demand that California Governor Newsom respond to this urgent crisis not by simply acknowledging that climate change is real – but by halting new oil and gas permits immediately.

While our communities are on fire, we can’t settle for anything less.
Thank you for adding your voice,
