Exploring the journeys of people, art, and society towards a more inclusive and vibrant world.
This year, the festival celebrates 31 years of Mela in the UK. The theme is Illusions in Transit - exploring the journeys of people, art and society, and offering an exciting programme which captures the creative and cultural spirit of the city of Nottingham and the Midlands region. With a strong South Asian root, there is a constant theme of embracing an inclusive and vibrant society. The festival will include live performance, exhibitions, poetry, and a series of special community engagement commissions.

Launching with the incredible sounds of jazz pianist, Zoe Rahman; there will be spaces all over Hockley filled with South Asian rooted music and dance.
From DJ sets to performances and demonstrations, Nottingham’s Creative Quarter will come alive with Indo-Jazz, contemporary and classical styles and forms.

The sizzling scent of jalebis, samosa, and chaat will fill the beautiful botanical gardens.
With craft and fashion stalls, live performances, poetry, arts workshops, as well as yoga in the well-being tent will entertain and delight all afternoon.
The very best of local and international talent including Aziz Ibrahim, Kefaya, Mashi Theatre, Manushi, Harjinder Matharu, and Biant Singh’s drumming circle.

Organised in conjunction with the local South Asian Community, enjoy dance, music and poetry performers, workshops, stalls, food, DJ Sunny and lots of energy!
South Asian Heritage celebrations take place in Nottingham throughout September. The month is a celebration of the heritage and culture of people from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh who have settled and contributed to the social, historic, economic and cultural vibrancy of the city.

LIT explores the turbulent teenage years of a Nottingham girl looking for love in all the wrong places.
Writer Sophie Ellerby revives a proud British tradition by placing complex, working-class people at the heart of her work. Sophie is an actor and writer, and the spark of LIT came from her experience studying young women and mothers in the prison system.
