Congressman Jeff Fortenberry's grandstanding went on so long that the crowd began to chant, “Share the mic!” So I'm sharing the mic with all of you.
Kate Bolz for Congress

Dear friends,

At a campaign town hall in 2017, Congressman Jeff Fortenberry refused to take questions and comments from his constituents unless they were praising him. His grandstanding went on so long that the crowd began to chant, “Share the mic!”

Three weeks ago, we held our own Share the Mic session on Facebook Live – a live-streamed, no-filter Q&A open to all. It was such a hit that we held another one, and another one, and now it’s official: Share the Mic is weekly!

Join me this Saturday at 10:30 AM – and every Saturday at 10:30 AM – to ask questions and express comments at our weekly Share the Mic.

Last week I was joined by Jim Harrold to talk about mental health care and coverage for veterans and military members, and more special guests are in the works. I’ve loved hearing from so many people about the issues that matter to you. Here are a few highlights:

Q. What are your thoughts on the electoral college? Craig W.
A. I’m proud to have championed our split electoral college vote here in Nebraska, and I’d love to see that in every state – it’s just more representative. More voice of the people is better.

Q. How is your style of governing different from Congressman Fortenberry’s? Becky F.
A. I bring my social work skills and values with me. You have to meet people where they’re at, listen, and engage. That’s really been missing in Jeff Fortenberry’s service, and in the way Washington, DC works.

The way I see it, part of being an elected official means listening, learning, being humble enough to say you’ve been wrong, and being pushed by your constituents to grow every day.

It turns out that it’s not so hard to share the mic when you’re open to new ideas and viewpoints. That’s why these events have become a highlight of my week, and I hope to see you there soon!

You don’t need a Facebook account – just visit this link at 10:30 AM on Saturday.

As always, looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Kate Bolz
