Friend,

Donald Trump is trying to undermine our democracy and suppress votes and we’re not going to stand for it.

Today, my team took clear and decisive action to ensure Massachusetts voters know Trump’s threats to use law enforcement officials at polling locations as election monitors won’t happen here. We issued an advisory to remind all voters of their right to vote safely and free from intimidation, harassment and coercion. Share our post now to help spread the word!

When asked about whether he would send “poll watchers” to monitor for possible voter fraud, Trump said he planned to have sheriffs, U.S. Attorneys, Attorneys General - “everybody.”

Well, state and federal law don’t allow that and we’re happy to remind you - and all voters in Massachusetts - of their legal rights. Our advisory, issued today in English and Spanish, offers reminders for those who have questions about their rights when they cast their ballot.

State law prohibits intimidation of voters and interference with elections officers by anyone, including law enforcement officers and private citizens.

The President cannot send the military and/or federal law enforcement to monitor the polls.

The President cannot order state and local law enforcement officials to monitor the polls.

There are permissible forms of election observation and monitoring. People are prohibited, however, from harassing voters at the polls.

Together, we can ensure a free and fair election this November. Any attempt by anyone to stop that will not be tolerated.

Thanks for all you do,

Maura
