Dear Fellow Idahoans:

Today is a very special day for the Madison Liberty Institute. Not only is today our 2nd Anniversary since opening our doors here in Idaho, today also marks the 233rd Anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.

As we contemplate this special occasion, we can't help but think back to our nation's roots. As part of our celebration, we choose to invite the public to watch A More Perfect Union ([link removed]) at our building this afternoon. In the movie, the story focuses on the Constitutional Convention and the story of how our founding fathers worked tirelessly to come to an agreement on a new form of Government. At the end of the convention as Benjamin Franklin is signing the newly finished document, before it was sent off to the states to be ratified, Franklin states "I have often looked at that behind the president without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting. But now I... know that it is a rising...sun."

Today, as we look back on those inspirational words, having seen the blessing of the Constitution not only to American's but to the whole human race, we have confidence that our Constitution is our hope for a bright future. We believe that the U.S. Constitution established the best form of government and that is was divinely inspired. We look forward to our future as we work with you to preserve and restore the principles of liberty for ourselves and our posterity for years to come.

Happy Constitution Day!

Sincerely,
The Madison Liberty Institute

A More Perfect Union

What is the meaning of the word “Union” in this first phrase of the preamble? How is the Union so formed “more perfect”?

With it as our guide, can we yet bring about an even “more perfect Union”?

In celebration of #USConstitutionDay, our friend J. David Gowdy answers these questions in the following article...
