John, it’s been a packed week, but I just wanted to write you a quick note on my birthday before the day gets away.
On this day 41 years ago, I was born. Pandemic birthdays are different. No parties. No big celebratory dinners at your favorite restaurant. 2020 is just so different.
It’s been one of the hardest years of my life, for sure, but I’m so grateful to be alive. I’m grateful to have my family, my friends, my career. I’m grateful to have the support of this online network in every single state fighting for justice. That includes you, John, so thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
But I think this next year of my life is going to be a year of change for me. I can already see it in what we’re doing together at Real Justice. So far we’ve elected 9 prosecutors to the highest legal offices in their communities and we have 5 more endorsed candidates we’re working to elect this year.
Just today, our volunteers helped win an important victory for one of our endorsed prosecutors — Kim Gardner! Together, we mobilized to protect this progressive, Black woman leader who was just democratically elected as prosecutor in St. Louis against racist, sexist legislative attacks. And today, those attacks died in the Missouri House.
I’m proud of what we’ve done so far and what we will continue to do in all of our fights for justice. I am planning to throw my heart and soul into this work, and we’ll need people like you to do that, too.
That’s why this is my birthday wish: for you to make a gift of anything you can afford to support our fight to protect and elect as many Real Justice candidates as we can this year. If you can’t afford it right now, will you forward this email to someone who might be willing to help?
Contribute $5
To be candid, we’re running behind on covering our monthly budget, and we need people like you to chip in to help us get back on track. Any amount makes a difference. We’re directing everything we raise on this email into keeping our organizing tools running, our staff funded, and mobilizing volunteers around the tough work that results in justice.
In spite of all of the challenges 2020 has brought, I’m truly looking forward to what’s ahead. With your help, I know we will make real change.
Love y’all.
